Often known to his patients and fellow doctors as Dr. Rishi, Dr. Rishi Kumar moved back to his home town of Louisville, KY in July of 2007 joining his father, Dr. Sushil Kumar, in practice and taking over as director of the cataract and glaucoma services at Kumar Eye Institute.

Dr. Rishi completed fellowship training with Dr. Alan Crandall in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Moran Eye Center, which is the largest eye center west of the Rockies. Dr. Crandall is world-renown as one of the leading cataract and glaucoma surgeons in the world and more so as one of the best hands-on teachers of complex cataract and glaucoma surgery. Dr. Kumar completed over 300 primary surgical cases as a fellow in addition to traveling with Dr. Crandall to Kumasi, Ghana to provide surgery for the poor and to teach residents surgical skills.

In Louisville, Dr. Rishi Kumar performs over 500 cataract, glaucoma and laser procedures annually. He is currently also serving as Chief of Surgery at St. Mary's hospital and also serves on the St. Mary's and Jewish Hospital credentialing committee for the past two years.
